Research

 

Research is an integral part of the Institute's activities and is primarily community based. Special projects have been designed to increase and improve rehabilitation services. Modules have been created to target vast majority of the handicapped, located in semi–urban and rural areas.

The research is divided into three major portions:

  1. Research undertaken by students
  2. Research Projects sponsored by the institute
  3. Collaborative research project

1) Research undertaken by students:

Every year as a part of the curriculum master’s students undertake research projects as their dissertation under the guidance of the faculty. Every year approximately 15 research projects from students are completed in the areas of utilization of technology for the HI, aids & appliances and their effects on HI, therapeutic approaches and their effect on various disorders

2) Research Sponsored by the institute:

AYJNIHH encourages the faculty of the organization to undertake various research projects for developing/improving the existing services to the persons with disability.

Major areas in which research is concentrated are in understanding the problems faced by PWD’s in real life scenario like education, employment, quality of life etc. and also to develop assessment and treatment tools for the PWD’s.

Presently as a part of research the ongoing projects are (1) “Low Cost Hi fidelity TV Audio Signal Enhancement Device using Frequency Modulation (FM) Technology for the Elderly with Hearing Disability” funded by DST, New Delhi. 

Completed Projects:

The following projects were completed last year:

  1. Development of Low Cost Noise Level Indicator with Visual Alarm Funded by AYJNIHH, Mumbai.
  2. Aphasia diagnostic battery in Indian Sign Language – An adapted version of the Western Aphasia Battery (WAB).
  3. Development of normative database in adults for the Motor Speech Profile.
  4. Comparative study of phonology, syntax and morphology in Indian sign language of deaf signers in narration and discourse mode

3) Collaborative Research Projects:

AYJNIHH, SRC also collaborates with other organizations for conducting research projects Science & Technology Mission Mode of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, DST, Ministry of Science & Technology and All India Institute for Speech& Hearing
Other than this the faculty also participates in various conferences, Seminars, workshops and presents scientific papers. The faculty has also published scientific research articles in various National& International Journals.
